Dig, Dream, Drool

i think i forgot to mention that last week EBN and i enjoyed a mahjong date – she knows all her cracks!

you guys, we made it through week 1 of march.  and i blogged every day.  it’s a mini-miracle.  don’t get over excited, it’s sure to be down hill from here but i’m going to take this as a win, none the less.

when not working, crocheting, folding laundry, planning passover, neglecting my husband and raising a toddler, i’ve been thinking or obsessing about the following:

i knew all my fears about flying were totally rational.

if i can’t hang art above my bed, because we live in earthquake country and i’m married to someone who is responsible, maybe we could make the wall, itself, a piece of art.

is it because i grew up in the ’90s that i think there is no better style than a baby doll dress and combat boots?

did you guys watch saturday morning tv on nbc?  and i’m not talking cartoons.

i’m sure many of you have seen this floating around the web, but i found this video on inequality absolutely shocking.

and finally, just one more thing i want to do in preperation for passover.

somehow my brother convinced me to watch the wire.  has there ever been a more depressing show?  but i just can’t seem to quit it.  by the time you read this, i’ll be through with season 3.  i’m pretty sure things aren’t going to end well…

Dig, Dream, Drool

Mar 01

you guys, did you hear the news?  the fung wah bus is no more!  i know.  end.of.an.era.  how are young people, in long distance, boston-new york relationships, ever going to prove their love for one another by regularly risking life and limb?  i was known to travel across state lines with a suitcase filled to the brim with swedish meatballs and my grandmas chocolate cake and who can forget when ABN boarded the “wrong bus” and ended up on his way to dc rather than nyc (as if!).  if you didn’t live on the east coast in the early 2000′s i realize there’s a good chance you have no clue what i’m talking about.  but for those in the know – anyone else experience a trip with live chickens AND softcore porn?

moving on….a few treats from the week that was:

i made this for dinner last night (grilled the fish on my panini press – life changed!) – beyond delicious

georgia and i were in the same cabin in ’92 and found each other online many years later.  now she’s getting her own tv show.  so excited.

i read danielle’s post about home after i had written about my life in pacifica earlier this week – i think there’s a lot of similar feelings expressed

look for a post on my 7 little quirks sometime next week, for now check out freckled italian

organization and crochet – drool

dress love

skirt love - actually, let’s just order one of everything in the store and call it a day

as if i needed another reason to love my kindle

my birthday is saturday so ABN and i are hitting the town (read: going out to dinner) tonight.  i plan mark the occasion by taking a long shower and blow drying my hair (i know).  then saturday we have family in town and sunday, if the weather is half way decent we’re going to take the city head on and spend the day enjoying a new park.  not bad, right?

march is going to be a busy month for us over here at frecklesinthefog.  between passover, awaiting a major decision from the supreme court and putting the final touches on shower planning for my sister in law – blog posting might be a bit more sporadic than what y’all are typically used to.

there will be plenty to share, you might just need to be patient.

Dig, Dream, Drool + a Video

Feb 22

we are a people who stick to a routine in this house – or at least two of us do.  you can guess which ones.  and so, a typical lunch time around here looks a lot like this – EBN gets to watch a show while she munches on yogurt and turkey and banana and goldfish – and i sit at my kitchen table and get a bit of pre-nap work done (nap time is my major during the day work opportunity but as she is otherwise occupied i can usually at least make it through my emails).  so thursday, like most other days, all of the above happened. but then this happened too (turn your volume up):

i have no words.  i mean, clearly BUDDY had a lot to do with this but still.  what’s not included is that she went all the up to 15 and then got super confused and switched to english.

it’s been a while since i’ve put a list together – not because there hasn’t been great stuff – just because, i’m behind so today, i’m playing catch up (aka please excuse my links about valentines day!).  also, this week we seem to be focused on food – seems like i’ve got a one track mind.

i’m making this next week for dinner – period.  and these for dessert.

i’ve got a major craving for this.  and while the cheese on this pizza is a total paleo no-no, the crust is a go!

i knew my too-often target trips would have a major pay-off

finally, a lesson on the right way to use hot rollers!

madly in love with this diaper bag.

a perfect outfit for any day of the year.

if i were to plan our wedding now, i would want it to look just like this.

you know i love my slow-cooker and THIS stew looks delicious (to keep it paleo i’d just have to substitute a few ingredients…nbd)

2nd time this week i’ve been reminded i really want a denim vest.

i’m a complete NPR nerd – so this had me hysterical.

a new blog to me (thanks suz) that i’m really enjoying.  can’t wait to try paleo massaman curry.

what a wonderful tradition.

i love her.

this weekend i’m off to wine country to celebrate a friend’s birthday.  i’m bringing wine, cookies and kale salad – the perfect contribution for a picnic (as far as i’m concerned).  and then the academy awards – i plan to drink wine coolers and live tweet the red carpet.  hope to find some of you there!

39/365 nothing like a free trip to the “aquarium”

we broke out yesterday – i just couldn’t take it any longer.  she’s still not 100% (she was up in the middle of the night, not sick, but asking me to sing) although she sure does bounce a lot.  we ran a few errands (dry cleaners, bank and a special trip to see the fishies) and then headed home for an extra long nap.

while i haven’t accomplished a whole hell of a lot this week – i sure have found good stuff around the web.  check it out!:

we’re gearing up for quite the passover around here, and what would passover be without a bit of crochet!?  these seem like the perfect decoration.

a post about online dating and jury selection – definetly in the running for best.post.ever.

i might watch too much tv

i know earlier this week i was talking about wanting to de-clutter.  but i also love everything about a home that looks like this.

if i were ever to become a rich and powerful…fixer…i’d for sure take the wardrobe to go with it.

get in my belly

get in my belly (ache)

love it or hate it, this craigs list ad IS san francisco

and just because i’d feel like a bad friend if i didn’t include you – i just got my subscription, you probably should too.

have a great weekend – and east coasters – wish you were here!

i love dateline.  if it has to do with murder or abuction, or better yet, both, i am totally there.  and i love me some lester holt.  i dvr it on friday night, every friday night, and find time to watch it during the week.  recently dateline has been 120 minutes, rather than a typical hour, and i love it even more.  ABN totally judges me and wonders how i sleep at night.  i don’t really sleep at night…go figure. i’ve just been feeling like you should know.

moving on…

this living room seems pretty perfect to me.  and the i love my family print is on the very top of my wishlist for my upcoming birthday.

speaking of my upcoming birthday, my gift to myself might just be family photos (no, we have never had any taken).  these photos literally make my uterus ache.

everyone i know is pregnant and while i’m doing homemade gifts this go-round (thank you crochet) i’m pretty much in love with everything on this list (especially those headbands!)

i was a huge accapella groupie in college – this movie was pretty amazing, pretty sure i need to own it.

not gonna lie, pretty excited about the launch of this.

and this might satisfy my need for quiche.

man oh man, i wish i had the guts.

i have got to get on the valentine’s day train or i’m going to have 4 very disappointed grandparents.  how adorable are these?

short and sweet and to the point.  have an excellent weekend and start to your february!

Imagining a One-Day Play-Space

Jan 24

i’ve mentioned before that in the next few months ABN and i plan to get started on a fairly significant (for us, who haven’t painted a single wall) home improvement project.  priority #1 is to re-do our basement space.  we already have a half bath down there but we need to make it full.  and while the space is technically “finished” we need to add heat and flooring and probably a couple of walls to better divide what we’ve got.  ideally there will be a kids room down there as well as a guest room.

i want to keep the space as white as possible so that over time EBN and her friends can leave their mark. i want spaces for chill-axing and spaces for creating. and a chalkboard wall. and a tippee. you know, just the essentials. our upstairs bedrooms are small so we knew from the time we moved in we wanted to create a downstairs space where the kiddos could be. i like to think about EBN having friends over at the last minute. and ordering them pizza. and sitting on the couch upstairs with ABN, sipping a glass of wine, knowing they are in my home, and safe.
