Books are for Reading

Mar 05

we’re a family who appreciates a good read.

ABN goes through phases when he gets so caught up in whatever he’s most recently ordered from amazon that he stays up way passed his bedtime in order to read just a few more pages.  he’s in one of these periods now, reading a book about 3d printing.  every night, without fail, i find him tapping me on the shoulder, after i’ve turned out my own light, to share just one more really cool thing he has to share.  obviously, i could care less.  but, since it’s true love, i sit up, look over and feign interest.  at least the first time.  after that i play unresponsive.

EBN is happiest with a book in hand.  from dinosaurs to dora, from recipes to her spanish dictionary, she loves turning the pages, reciting passages from memory and studying the photos.  her latest trick is to read “cow to loud” (a p’pa original) from start to finish – complete with sound effects.  she’ll happily entertain large audiences with her story telling but, most of the time, she’s just as happy to perform for only herself.

right now i’m struggling in the book department – which is an issue considering i set myself a pretty lofty regarding the number of books i hoped to read in 2013.  it’s march and im embarrassed to admit i’ve completed exactly 3 books – and really, that’s  a stretch considering two of books were reference type books and so i didn’t really read them start to finish.  i blame the romance that i kicked the year off with.  it was for a book club that i didn’t even end up attending (sick kid) and it was pretty awful.  the book for march happens to be one of my favorite books of all time so i’m spending this week re-reading and i’m hoping that inspires me to keep up the habit.

with spring right around the corner, i’m hoping to get back on track with at least a couple of these:

i’m more than open to suggestions so if you’ve got something great, be sure to send it my way!

Half broke horses is disappointing, but quick… so there’s that. I want to read Beautiful Creatures! I’m somewhere around 400 in line at the library (because i will not stoop to buying it, I already own 1 of the four Twilight books).

hahaha, i should put myself on the list too. i started silver lining last night and i’m in full force!

Oh, the book I’ve loved! so far this year I picked based on nothing more than the cool cover art – The Revised Fundamentals of Caregiving by Jonathan Evison. And the above mentioned Where’d You Go, Bernadette was one of my top 3 picks for last year…

I always appreciate your reading choices. Think we can start a nocal/socal bookclub? we can meet in santa barbara!

i need to add beautiful creatures to my library list – i’m sure there is a long wait but that seems like the only appropriate way to read such…literature :)
