for the love of TARGET – i went in to buy coffee filters for a toddler art project and came out with these STUDDED high-tops. go figure…
loving:
awards show season! some people love the holidays, other people live for summer. for me, it’s watching all my friends (ie people i have never met in real life but i’m pretty confident we’d be bffAE if ever were to get together) get all gussied up and then walk the red carpet. because honestly – it’s all about the clothes. the awards – eh, i could take them or leave them. my two favorite awards shows are the golden globes and the sag awards because they bring movie and tv together and in my world the only thing better would be if NKOTB were there too. my favorite way to view the shows is with wine coolers and out-of the-freezer appetizers. alone on my couch. when i was in college (and for a few years post) i hosted parties with ballots and a strict dress code (pajamas). but that just seems like a lot of work when i can just live tweet with the rest of you
.
reading:
i am proud to say i am FINALLY reading a book for the mom’s club bookclub (it’s only taken me a year and a half). i am not proud to say this is the book. it’s as bad as it sounds. i’m not a reader of romance but after getting on the 50 Shades band wagon last year i figured some down and dirty erotica can save even a really bad book. but i’m on page 150 and while we have just gotten to 2nd base. to make matters that much worse the book takes place in 1497 and the main character’s name is jenny. that feels…inauthentic. i would have gone with guinievere. still, i’m excited to get together with these ladies – even if the book doesn’t bring the raunch, i’m hoping they will.
working on:
i’m in major party planning mode. i’m hosting a bridal shower for my sister-in-law in may (in boston) but before that we’ve got passover here for…oh you know just 36-40 of our nearest and dearest. i am so beyond excited – but there is work to be done and as we are quickly approaching february it is time to get serious. while my parents were in town this past week i made the soup and the applesauce after a very successful trip to costo (where i also procurred stemless wine glasses – 12 for $8.99. i bought 36). next on the agenda is to figure out the seder itself. last year i aimed the seder at my 7 year old neighbor, this year i’m targeting a slightly more sophisticated audience. that being said, there are sure to be props, parody songs and ridiculous shenanigans. stay tuned.
eating:
since my parents were in town, ABN and i were able to escape to sonoma for a night this weekend. while in sonoma i drank copious amounts of wine and indulged in some foods that i’ve really been limiting (and for good reason – my stomach may never fully recover). we ended our culinary adventure at possibly my very favorite resturaunt, the girl and the fig where i devoured the quiche lorraine. it was light. it was fluffy. the flakey curst melted in my mouth. i’m drooling as i type this.
listening to:
there’s lots of record playing around these here parts and it’s been pretty great. we listen to a little bit of country (sesame country, that is) and a bit of disco (sesame disco) and even some motown (if you count mr. rogers neighborhood as motown. i only kid…). but we also really enjoy bouncing around the living room to nina simone, carol king and bruce springsteen. the lumineers (no surprise) is on constant rotation.
making me happy:
good customer service! i’ve had two instances this week and i want to share. 1st – my love of nordstroms knows no bounds. i bought i watch there way back when (like when we first moved to SF and i had nothing to do but walk up and down the hills and spend the money i wasn’t making). the watch stopped working a couple years ago and i sorta forgot about. while my parents were in town we found ourselves going to nordstroms so i brought the watch with me to see if they could help. low and behold, when my mom told the watch lady of my troubles (i was chasing a toddler) she simply handed her a BRAND NEW WATCH.
and story number 2 – back in november i rented a dress for that disney wedding. the dress was balls to the wall gorgeous but there was a bit of an issue. i called rent the runway and they were super understanding/apologetic and sprung into action. while they didn’t have the same dress to send me, they offered a slew of other options and overnighted a dress to me right away. after a bunch of back and forth i decided to wear the original, flawed dress. it worked out fine – i looked gorgeous but it wasn’t perfect. still, i was really happy with the way rent the run way handled the situation. then out of the blue today i get an email from the ceo with a coupon for another rental (shipping included!!) because of my experience. thanks rent the runway – customer for life, and you should be too – now if only i had some place to go!
thanks again to DANIELLE for bringing the CURRENTLY series to this space.
