Halloween Prep
Oct 29
i’ve never been a real halloween person. that being said – growing up i always had a homemade costume (let me just be clear – these were not home sewn costumes, but they also did not come out of a package. ever. DIY in the early 80s), i always went trick or treating to the same houses with my same neighborhood friend (and our dads) and we always carved pumpkins purchased from the nearest parking-lot-turned-temporary-city-patch. and that’s where my celebrating started and stopped. october 31st. that was it, no big lead up, no extention into november. and for the last several years – other than handing out candy on our front porch when we lived in arlington massachusetts – there really has been no celebrating period.
until now:
we spent quite a bit of our “sick” time last week gearing up for halloween. there was painting and so many stickers and yarn and tape. check back later this week for the finished projects, and of course our costumes. clearly the little one will by far be the cutest but, i previewed my ensemble on saturday night at our neighbors spooky bash and i have to say, for a last minute, thrown together out of my closet costume, i did pretty good.
