Don’t Be Fancy – Just Get Dancy
Sep 24
yes, i just quoted p!nk lyrics.
little known fact about me – i love me some cheesy pop music.
i swear, the number one reason i’ve continued with the whole running thing is because it’s an excuse to listen to britney and ke$ha and rihanna and the black eyed peas.
and it’s why i love going to weddings. there is nothing better than throwing back a few free cocktails and busting a move to CALL ME MAYBE or PARTY IN THE USAnew (as captured above…oops).
i’ve always been a fan. my 10th birthday was a big one. not only did my parents let me have a slumber party but i was also gifted my first walkman (from my grandma) and 3 tapes: the debut nkotb, apatly named NEW KIDS ON THE BLOCK, FOREVER YOUR GIRL by paula abdul and milli vanilli’s GIRL YOU KNOW IT’S TRUE (oh man, i loved BLAME IT ON THE RAIN). i’ve never looked back. i may have denied my love for a while – somehow i skipped the whole nsync/backstreet boys craze and spent my hard earned camp counselor dollars attending WHINING WOMEN concerts rather than destiny’s child and mariah carey. but i can still sing every word of JENNY FROM THE BLOCK and IT’S MY LIFE (god, i love BON JOVI).
these days while in my car, i’m typically blasting toddler tunes. or catching up on the news of the day with a bit of npr. and at night, when i sing to EBN as her eyes flutter until shut – it’s an out-of-tune top folk hits of the 1960s and 70s playlist. but in just another like-mama-like-daughter-nature-vs-nurture-mini-me moment – EBN loves to bust a move. whether it’s TEENAGE DREAM or I GOTTA FEELING the girl knows how to shake it. we’re all pretty sure it’s all practice for her first wedding next summer. you’ll be able to find her in her sparkle toms, in the center of the dance floor.
