I’ve Been Keeping Something From You…

Aug 30

sweaty and salty post-run

it’s totally not a big deal to anyone but me (no, i’m not pregnant, haven’t we been over this?) but, for the last 4 days, i’ve been running again.  that’s right – 4 days. 4 runs (actually, by the time you read this i’ll be up to 5 days and 5 runs).  who am i?  really, i’m not sure.  but i’ve sorta decided, there’s no reason not to run.  actually, that’s a ridiculous statement – there a b-gillion reasons not to run and i’ve thought of them all but what i’ve decided is, there is no reason that i can’t squeeze in a quick 40 minutes every day – or, almost every day (i’m not insane).

i’m not consistent with timing although i do like to get out in the morning.  now that EBN is finally sleeping til 7 (watch, she’ll be up at 4 tomorrow) it’s made this decision way easier.  in a perfect world i’m up at 6, throw on my running clothes, have a cup of coffee and check email.  she joins me between 6:55 and 7:05 (we’re very consistent) for a cuddle on the couch while she munches on some cheerios and sips some milk.  that’s right – we’ve said so long to the bottle.  it’s been 5 days since her last “ka” and while we still talk about it A LOT, as long as i call the sippy cup a “ka” she seems happy enough.  then, i hit the road and i can do my run and take my shower before ABN has to leave for work.

other days i run in the afternoon.  as we ALL know, there a lot of reasons why BUDDY is like the best person ever, but one is that two days a week i get a break from mama duties.  i mean, i’ve got a lot of other duties too (like you know work) but i’ve realized that if i can squeeze in a trip to the grocery store when BUDDY is around, even better to squeeze in a short run.

i did a quick search through my past blog posts and i think i stopped running super consistently right around my birthday.  (yes, my birthday was back in march, yes it is now almost september – i think what i experienced is called falling off the wagon but i’m back on the wagon…ok?).  i hadn’t given up running completely but it for sure wasn’t part of my daily (or even weekly) routine.  i decided to go back to where it all started with C25K.  i have to say, i was pretty impressed that i was able to pick up right in the middle of week 6 and have already progressed to week 7.  not bad, not bad at all.  my goal is to be super comfortable with a 5k by the end of september and then to gift myself with new running shoes and move on to a 5k to 10 or 15k training program.  don’t get me wrong – i have no plan to do any races anytime soon, i just realize this all works A LOT better when i am following a plan rather than just doing my own thang.

also, i’ve got another wedding in november (is this a record year?) and i’d love to wear this bad boy:

oh, to be young again

although i do realize this totally goes against my “now-that-i’m-30-i-must-always-wear-a-bra” rule.  okay, the dress is still up for debate.
