Chugging Into the Station

Jun 19

a couple of weeks ago, when ABN decided he’d be taking a new job (SPOILER ALERT!) i suggested that we spend a long weekend away in celebration of father’s day and all that is ABN.  i wanted something easy and fun and affordable, with warm weather (not hard to find these days) and an outdoor pool.  around the same time that i was day dreaming, a mama friend had just returned from a quick family adventure in sacramento – perfect.  within a matter of hours i’d booked a hotel (STAYBRIDGE SUITES – if you are traveling with a family, i strongly suggest this chain.  plenty of room to spread out, comfy bed/nice sheets, free parking, outdoor pool and breakfast is included – for the win!), scheduled our activities and add the weekend away to THE PLAN (yes, we have a family google calendar – i’m rolling my eyes right along with ya).

our weekend away was hot  great fun.  we giggled on the drive,  took a family nap in the large hotel bed, walked through old town, splashed in the pool for hours, covered ourselves in stickers, ate at chain restaurants and spent more time with trains than i ever knew was possible.  most importantly – it was time for the 3 of us to be together.  and there really isn’t much better than that.

what follows is an enormous amount of photos…you’ve been warned:

i know i’m a little late for a father’s day post (that’s okay, i’m a little late on the gifts as well – although they are now officially in the mail to the respected P’pas, Grandpas and Papas…sheesh) but we spent this weekend smothering ABN with hugs and kisses and so many toddler giggles that i’m pretty sure he knows how loved and appreciated he is.  in the last week or so EBN has started to do this thing – as soon as she hears the garage door open she starts scrunching her face up super tight, smiling from ear to ear, loosing her neck and squealing like a pig.  she runs over to the top of the stairs and waits anxiously for her daddy, literally throwing herself into his arms at the first possible moment.  this is all followed by 5 solid minutes of the two of them shrieking at one another in pure delight.  i’m sorta jealous.

Sounds like a wonderful and special weekend – which of course they all are! Mental pictures are so special but your physical pictures are the best. You and ABN are awesome photographers if I may say so myself! I think the “daddy’s home” routine is the absolute best for those amazing fathers we are married too – and those memories are perhaps the their best! Congrats on the news and can’t wait to hear more. love you all
