now that memorial day has come and gone, summer must be in full swing…right? for a mama of a not-yet-school-aged child, who lives in the bay area where hot days are few and far between – one way to mark time is in the books that i read. at some point earlier this year i set some ridiculous goal of reading, wait for it, 35 books. i’m not sure what i was thinking but i’m sure i wasn’t thinking that it breaks down to almost 3 books a month. i’m currently at 7 and according to my GOODREADS account, that means i’m 21% behind. oops.
anyway, in addition to vanity fair and new yorker, here’s what else i plan to be reading this summer:
this is next on my list – i love THE BLOGGESS and read her on a daily basis. i’ve been anxiously awaiting the release of her book since she first announced that she sold her book way back when. it’s already waiting for me on my kindle.
as i’ve mentioned before, i love me some CAROLE KING. she was sorta my first love and will forever hold a special place in my heart. i read GIRLS LIKE US a couple of years ago and enjoyed every page. reading about the lives of the rock stars that i have idealized forever…always a good thing
NELL FREUDENBERGER and i went to high school together…or, we went to the same high school and overlapped for like a year…maybe. her sister was a couple years ahead of me. whatever. girls who i went high school with do annoying things like discovering galaxies. i find the alumnae updates that arrive at my parent’s house once a year – the full color, glossy pages – taxing. but that’s tale for another time. i’m excited for this book and this story. i devoured her first novel, a few years ago.
i figure this one needs no explanation
every summer needs a little chick-lit. i have a soft spot for JENNIFER WEINER. i think i’ve read it all, or most. her characters have a sass that i can’t seem to resist – and this one features an egg donor so i sorta think i can bill my clients for my “research” time
and finally – i’ve been dying to read one of the JEFF BUCKLEY biographies forever. seriously – since 2003ish. this summer, it will happen. i’m just trying to figure out which one i should tackle. THIS ONE or THIS ONE. maybe both? have you read one? let me know.
so there you have it…quite a tall order…no? i’d say, it’s unlikely i’ll make it through the whole list by labor day…but a girl can try. are you planning on getting some reading done over the next few months? i’d love to hear what’s on your list!Read More
